SAVANNAH, GA – May 28, 2020 – The Salvation Army Savannah (TSA) has announced that they will be able to offer their annual summer day camp at TSA’s Community Center at Bee Road to support working families in our community. This facility offers sufficient space to allow for social distancing procedures which along with enhanced cleaning, will enable TSA to follow Georgia’s public health recommendations. The non-profit organization is anticipating an increased need for this affordable childcare by working families who are struggling economically and who rely on these childcare services every year.

TSA can enroll up to 64 children from ages 5-12 and can provide two, four-week semesters at an affordable cost of $305 per semester. The camp operates from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday-Friday to accommodate for work schedules and serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks to children.

Families rely on TSA to provide an affordable, safe, nurturing and spiritually-led day care program. The program, now in its 30th year, provides structured learning and organized activities to build character and engage youth in wholesome activities such as computer lab learning, one-on-one tutoring in math and reading, group sports, museum and historic field trips.  Some donors in our community have stepped up to fund places at the summer camp, at a time when The Salvation Army’s resources are been stretched by the economic impact of the pandemic.

“During these difficult times, we have worked tirelessly to accommodate people who already have so little. During the height of the pandemic, we opened an additional shelter to house, feed and provide emotional support for women and families; served “to-go” meals for the homeless community and participated in food drives. Now, we are appealing to community members to support our annual summer day camp by sponsoring a student’s semester to help families in need. Miracles happen each day at The Salvation Army. Within our walls hearts are healed, lives are saved, individuals and families are housed and fed and a new spirit of hope and inspiration is brought to those most vulnerable within our community. Together we are – Doing The Most Good,” said Salvation Army Major Paul Egan.

The Salvation Army serves all 159 counties in Georgia and is uniquely positioned with 40 facilities that provide family emergency and sheltering assistance throughout out the state. TSA’s workers are local and have always been here for the community. In times of disaster, the organization will continue to be the last to leave to offer support and guidance on the front lines.
