SAVANNAH, GA – November 26, 2019 – Savannah VOICE Festival (SVF) and the Davenport House Museum (DHM) continue their collaboration with the second in the series of Savannah’s Music Through the Ages.
On Monday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m., DHM will present the lecture “Early Jazz,” with speaker Robert Gibson. This musical journey, which began in September by exploring the mid-nineteenth century, will focus on the years 1900-1940, during which time the Davenport House fell on hard times and jazz music was on the rise. This presentation will last approximately an hour and is free and open to the public. Attendees will experience a sampling of music and will be encouraged to engage in discussion with the artists and scholars who are presenting. On Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, in two performances at 6 and 8 p.m., Savannah VOICE Festival artists will present a concert of “Early Jazz,” which will delight lovers of jazz and the vocal arts.
“We value our collaboration with the Savannah VOICE Festival and are excited about this next lecture and concert in the series,” said Davenport House Museum Director Jamie Credle. “We hope everyone will be jazzed about this wonderful, unique opportunity to sit back, relax and let some cool cats whisk you away to an earlier era.”
“We love our longstanding association with Davenport House Museum and this series of parlor concerts and community lectures is a true celebration of Savannah’s music during different times in the city’s history” enthuses SVF Executive Director Maria Zouves. “We can’t wait to share the evening while our artists Sing, Sing, Sing with a Swing!”
Tickets are available for purchase in the Davenport House Museum Gift Shop and on the Davenport House Museum and SVF websites. This series is a collaborative co-production with proceeds benefiting both SVF and the Davenport House Museum.
