SAVANNAH, GA – November 4, 2019 – Savannah Philharmonic is slated to present Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, located at 32 Abercorn Street. Conductor Sameer Patel and Violinist William Hagen will join Savannah Philharmonic to explore three dimensions of celebration during this memorable concert.
“Sameer Patel was the former Associate Conductor for the San Diego Symphony,” says Savannah Philharmonic’s Music and Artistic Director Designate, Keitaro Harada. “He’s a wonderful conductor, an accomplished pianist–and a great friend of mine!”
Beginning with Anna Clyne’s exciting, ceremonial overture, Masquerade, written for the BBC Proms, the evening will continue with Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, which warmly celebrates both friendship and virtuosity and will conclude with Prokofiev’s unbridled homage to the human spirit, Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major, Op. 100.
“Anna Klein is an English composer, now living in the US. Her work has become increasingly popular over the last few years and has been nominated for several prestigious awards including the Grammys!” enthuses Harada. “William Hagen is a sensational violinist who was awarded third prize at the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition in 2015, making him the highest ranking American since 1985. We are thrilled to have him with us to perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto during what promises to be a spectacular concert!”
The audience will also have an opportunity to become better acquainted with the music, thus enhancing their overall concert experience, during a “behind the scenes talk,” which will be offered at 6:30 p.m. by Edward Lada, Director of Artistic Operations for the Savannah Philharmonic.
The concert is presented by Charles C. Taylor & Samir Nikocevic’s Charitable Foundation.
