SAVANNAH, GA – July 10, 2019 – The Savannah Ballet Theatre and School of Dance will hold Summer Intensives for dancers of varying ages and skill levels from July 15-26 at the Savannah Ballet School of Dance, 115 Charlotte Road on Whitemarsh Island.

The Savannah Ballet Theatre is calling dancers to dust off those tutus, slide on their slippers (or lace up their pointe shoes)and come practice everything from pirouettes to passés at Summer Intensives. The classes are designed with a focus on technique, stamina, strength and other fundamentals of a well-rounded dance education.

For rising third- through seventh-graders, Savannah Ballet Theatre is hosting two-weeks of intensives from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. from July 15-26. Each day will begin with a Vaganova ballet class, including barre warm-up, followed by a session of exercises in center and across the floor. Following a midday lunch break, dancers will return to the studio to study musical theatre, jazz, contemporary, strength and conditioning, choreography and ballet history. After class, the dancers will get the chance to apply their skills to an exciting classical ballet variation.

Students can attend one or both weeks of intensives. The registration fee for one week of classes is $250 ($200 for company members) and $400 for both weeks ($350 for company members).

For advanced students (ages 13 and up), intensive sessions will be held July 15-19 from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. This rigorous ballet class will include an extensive barre warm-up and exercises in center and across the floor. Student from all studios are welcome and encouraged to attend. Savannah Ballet Company 2 members are required to attend. The registration fee for the advance intensives is $125.

The intensives are centered around the instruction of Kristen Jameson. In addition to holding a B.F.A in dance with a concentration in classical ballet and a master’s degree in early childhood education, Jameson also earned her full certification in years 1-8 of the Vaganova ballet technique. This is Jameson’s first season with Savannah Ballet Theatre

All dancers are expected to wear proper dance attire. This includes pink tights and a solid color leotard for ladies and a clean white shirt and black shorts for male dancers. Hair should be pulled back out of the face. Dancers should bring all applicable dance shoes. Students participating in the third- through seventh-grade intensives should bring lunch and a water bottle.

SBT is Savannah and southeast Georgia’s only professional dance company.
