May is National Preservation Month – special for Savannah and those who safeguard the places that make the city special. Local observance begins May 6, when Historic Savannah Foundation welcomes Thompson Mayes, a noted expert on historic preservation public policy and easements, shipwreck protection, historic house museums, accessibility, and the future of preservation. Mayes is the keynote speaker for the Louise Lauretti Lecture, focusing on principles highlighted in his new book, Why Old Places Matter, which touches on the role preservation plays in everyday life.
