SAVANNAH, GA – September 27, 2019 – Over the summer, Greenbriar Children’s Center facilitated the creation of a mural at one of the local preschools it operates. Savannah Arts Academy student Joshua Rogers is the artist behind the painting, now prominently displayed at Windy’s Preschool in historic downtown Savannah.
On May 25, 2019, Rogers began work on the mural and completed it in about 20 hours, spread over the course of one month. He said he was inspired by an internal need to help the community and wanted to use his artistic skills as a means to do so.
“Art can brighten someone’s day and some people live entirely for art,” said Rogers, who added that his work is often influenced by the wonders of the world and exploration. He hopes that his mural will instill a “sense of wonder and curious inquisition” within the children who see it. “I designed it as something for children to enjoy personally,” he explained.
The mural depicts sightseers in three hot air balloons overlooking both man-made and organic wonders across the world, including the Great Pyramid of Giza, a volcano erupting, the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, and the Big Ben clock tower in London, England, amongst other sites.
“We are very grateful for Joshua’s gift to the children at Windy’s Preschool,” said Greenbriar Executive Director Gena Taylor. “The mural is a beautiful piece that will definitely inspire the children’s marvel about the world.”
