SAVANNAH, GA – TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 2021 – Family Promise of the Coastal Empire Executive Director Katrina Bostick has been selected to serve on a panel of experts from across the nation who will weigh in on the expiration of the federal eviction moratorium during an online discussion and press conference Friday, March 12.
The federal eviction moratorium is currently scheduled to expire on March 31, potentially putting millions of American families at-risk to lose their housing. During Friday’s virtual panel discussion, national and local experts will share their insights and statistics on trends concerning family homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to Bostick, panelists include Family Promise National President and CEO Claas Ehlers, Family Promise of Lawrence, Kansas Executive Director Dana Ortiz and Family Promise Western Regional Director Stacy Pollard. They will discuss how the economic challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic have drastically impacted America’s low-income families. With employment status, childcare options, and access to services limited, more families than ever are at risk of losing stable housing.
“As the end of the federal eviction moratorium nears, we are talking about millions of families potentially becoming homeless,” Bostick said. “Across the country, Family Promise affiliates are already seeing an increase in families in crisis. Unfortunately, this is likely only the calm before the storm.”
Ehlers, Family Promise’s national CEO, will also share information on what Family Promise hopes to see from policymakers in the coming months, stories from local Family Promise providers on how national trends are playing out in communities across the U.S., and what he expects to see when the federal eviction moratorium expires and what action is needed now.
The free virtual panel discussion and press conference is set for 1 p.m. Friday, March 12 via GoToWebinar. Anyone interested in attending the online session can register here: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/4651902169154245135
