RICHMOND HILL, GA – June 10, 2019 – Family Promise of Bryan County received a generous $2,000 donation on Sunday, June 2 from Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church in Richmond Hill. Family Promise Board Chairwoman Chris Hasson and Network Director Candice Fife accepted a check from the congregation during the church’s Sunday morning service. The two representatives also spoke to the parishioners about Family Promise’s mission, objectives, history and recent accomplishments. They offered some insight on how the organization plans to proceed and continue to eliminate homelessness in Bryan County, one family at a time.
Family Promise partners with local churches and social service agencies to help families become finically stable and independent. The nonprofit organization recognizes that poverty is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted response. Family Promise responds by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of numerous volunteers in addition to providing food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. Typically, program participants sleep at participating churches at night and use the Family Promise day center to search and apply for employment during the day.
The 501(c)(3) charity offers a range of services, including the day center for families to utilize as a point of contact for potential employers as well as transitional housing, which provides short-term independent housing units for families who are ready to live independently yet require additional time and services to achieve total self-sufficiency.
“This donation will go a long way in helping us further our mission and help those in need,” Hasson said. “It is vital that we increase funding as family homelessness is a growing problem for Bryan County and we’re working hard to reverse the trend. We currently have 24 families on the waiting list for services, and we want to grow to be able to help everyone who qualifies for services”
