SAVANNAH, GA – December 21, 2020 – The Davenport House Museum invites guests to a special holiday tour by candlelight running December 26-30 from 6-8:30 p.m. Glistening by the flame of candlelight, the federal-style home welcomes visitors to the end-of-year celebrations of early 19th century Savannahians, including the Davenport household, who lived in the fine brick home on Columbia Square.

Light refreshments, music, and skilled interpreters who escort visitors through the home, are among the highlights of the presentation. The format of the tour is open-house style and will take approximately 60 minutes. There will be no admissions after 8 p.m.

“These candlelight tours are a magical experience for families and perfect for the holiday season,” said Davenport House Museum Director Jamie Credle. “Guests will be able to experience what the holiday culture was like in our beautiful city over a century ago and feel like they’ve been invited to Isaiah Davenport’s personal end-of-the-year celebration! Our hope is that these tours will serve as a source of joy during a holiday season punctuated by social distancing requirements and other cautions.”

The performance requires that guests be able to walk up and down stairs and maneuver in the candlelit rooms. Like the daily tours, there will be a limited number of guests permitted with each interpreter and face masks are required for the duration of the tour.

The price of admission is $12 for adults in advance, $15 at the door; $6 for children in advance, $8 at the door. There is a special deal for a combination pass for the Daily Tour and the Holiday Evening Tour, which is $16.
