BRYAN COUNTY PLANS RIBBON-CUTTING TO CELEBRATE HENDRIX PARK REC UPGRADES, NEW FIELD

SAVANNAH, GA – October 9, 2019 – Bryan County is set to celebrate the completion of several Hendrix Park recreation upgrades – including the installation of a new turf field – with a ribbon-cutting/grand opening event at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21.

In addition to the field, Hendrix Park recently received much-needed updates, including a new concession stand, bathrooms, LED field lighting, and a running/walking track. The park, located in North Bryan County’s Black Creek community, is a 100+ acre facility featuring a variety of amenities, such as a 1.6-mile walking/running track, gymnasium, football fields, soccer fields, baseball/softball complexes, covered picnic shelters, two tennis courts and a playground area.

The Oct. 21 ribbon cutting will include a visit from Adrian Peterson, a former Georgia Southern University stand-out who enjoyed an eight-year career with the Chicago Bears before deciding to funnel his energy and time into community outreach efforts. His motto, “Pray, Perform, Persist,” has become a mantra for the youth-based programs and initiatives he brings to various communities, including Bryan County. Over the summer, Peterson ran a sports camp in South Bryan for young athletes.

Community members are invited to attend the ribbon cutting, which is open to the public and will include brief speeches by community leaders, refreshments and tours of the newly updated facilities.

“The recreation department is looking forward to hosting the community for a short celebration in honor of our new turf field and facility upgrades at Hendrix Park. We’ll have Adrian Peterson here for a visit, so it’s a great opportunity to come out and meet him, check out our new improvements, and learn more about the great programs we have here for Bryan County youth,” Bryan County Recreation Director Dr. Samose L. Mays said.
