May 29, 2019— America’s BIG APPLE CIRCUS is bringing its highly acclaimed show to theSavannah Civic Center, where guests will be treated to the intimacy of a big-top tent experience thanks to the circus’s unique approach to arena performances. The interior of the Civic Center will be majestically transformed into a traditional big top circus tent, complete with a center performance ring, spotlights, banners and other décor aspects carefully chosen to lend an authentic and traditional feel to the atmosphere.

Coastal Empire residents have several dates and showtimes to choose from, as the circus’s Savannah visit runs fromJuly 11-14and will include evening and matinee performances.Big Apple’s stop in the Hostess City is part ofits first-ever tour of arenas around the United States, bringing America’s favorite circus to fans in their hometowns. World-renowned for its artistic style, BIG APPLE CIRCUS revitalizes the circus for modern-day audiences with unique and astounding human feats. Tickets are now onsale to the general public.

“We approached the BIG APPLE CIRCUS’ desire for a revolutionary arena experience by re-imagining the space as an intimate extension of the bandstand and ring,” explained Rob Bissinger and Anita La Scala, co-owners of ARDA Studio and set designers for the BIG APPLE CIRCUS’ first arena tour. “We drew upon our previous experience creating Ceremony Spectacles to create an abstract surround that encompasses the audience and invokes a modern vision of the playfulness and magic of the traditional big-top. The ethereal, ever-changing canopy embraces the audience and draws them in to the single ring affecting the scale and tactility of a European Circus, the closeness of which is a hallmark of BIG APPLE CIRCUS.”

In the 41stseason show, real-life wonder women take the reins, led by new Ringmaster Stephanie Monseu.  This year’s show is filled with a roster of superhero talents ready to incite jaw-dropping awe and inspire sheer joy in audiences of all ages. Ringmaster Monseu will be joined in the ring by a multitude of fierce, female-led acts and more, including:

  •  The “strongest mom in the world” Virginia Tuells andher husband Ihosvanys Perez in DUO FUSION, a breathtaking acrobatic act that combines dance, strength, flexibility and passion, in which Virginia handles a majority of the lifts
  • The wildly fun SPICY CIRCUS, created by Andréanne Quintal, whose team of performers will (literally) bounce off the walls in her feisty trampoline act
  • THE FLYING TUNIZIANIS, a double-wide trapeze act showcasing seven fliers & two catchers in addition to the quadruple somersault by Ammed Tuniziani – a feat only successfully landed by ten people in the world – alongside his wife Estefani, brothers Gamal & Dandino and more
  • DESIRE OF FLIGHT, a daring and balletic dual aerial straps act
  • A free-standing ladder balancing act by Emil Faltyny
  • Fan-favoriteJenny Vidbel, third-generation circus animal trainer and seven-year veteran of BIG APPLE CIRCUS
  • The hilarious Mark Gindick & Adam Kuchler
  • Live music by Wages Argott& Band

BIG APPLE CIRCUS does not featurewild or exotic animals. The only animals featured in theshow are beloved rescue dogs and ponies. These four-legged friends are loved and cared for by certified animal trainer, Jenny Vidbel. For over two decades, Vidbel has been rescuing dogs and horses, and training those who show talent and interest in circus acts. When they aren’t performing, they live with Vidbel on her ranch in upstate New York.

Named a Critic’s Pick by the New York Times, the paper hails this year’s show as “high-flying, wholesome family entertainment – good-hearted and pleasure-minded – with a robustly international cast.”

As is its long-standing tradition, BIG APPLE CIRCUS will continue to honor the essential andiconic characteristics that has set it apart for the past four decades, providing multiple community outreach programs to local communities on the tour. The BIG APPLE CIRCUSwill continue to provide enhanced experiences for audiences who are blind, deaf or low-vision. Performances may also include ASL interpretation, live audio description, pre- andpost-show touch experiences and a Braille descriptive program.
