Thomaston, GA – May 25, 2021 – Beyond the Bell invites Upson County residents to their Town Hall event for a fun and informational afternoon on Friday, June 11th from 12 noon– 4 p.m. at the playground on Park, located at 311 Park Street in Thomaston.
This free event will have light refreshments, fun giveaways such as t-shirts and totes, and a featured speaker who will talk about the importance of prevention programs and the impact that Beyond The Bell has had on the Upson County community the past five years. Beyond the Bell provides an underage alcohol and substance use prevention program that includes free life skills classes and offers many interactive initiatives for youth to participate in, such as leadership training, educational trips, community service projects, and networking opportunities.
“It is important that young people in our community know about the dangers of substance abuse and how easily it can get out of control,” said Region 6 Project Coordinator, Amanda Smith. “This community event is one of our initiatives designed to present the youth and adults of our community with the facts about substance use in a supportive, nonjudgmental way.”
Along with the DBHDD (Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities) and SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, who sponsors the Town Hall event every two years), Beyond The Bell provides tools and evidence-based strategies that train, educate, and support youth and families in the prevention of alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco use and abuse in the local community.
