SAVANNAH, GA – March 14, 2020 – Asbury Memorial Church and Theatre, after closely monitoring the coronavirus pandemic and consulting with local health professionals, announce that they will be suspending all church activities and services until further notice.
This includes Asbury Theatre Company’s production of Man of La Mancha which enjoyed a successful opening last weekend. The performances scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 13, & 14, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15 are postponed and new dates will be announced in due course. Tickets purchased will be valid for future performances.
“We must do all we can to protect our church members and the citizens of Savannah, especially those who are over 60 and/or those with compromised immune systems,” said Rev. Billy Hester, Asbury Memorial’s pastor. “This is very difficult for us. We always want the doors of our church open – especially on Sundays. But as people of Christ, we are to take care of one another, and this is the best way to do that during this unique time.”
Asbury Memorial is exploring how to livestream Sunday worship services for later this month and are committed to providing ongoing spiritual support through online and telephone access.
“Our Theatre Company is disappointed to postpone the second weekend of Man of La Mancha,” said Asbury Memorial Theatre Company board member Rhonda Reed. “However, we are committed to safeguarding the health and safety of everyone involved in the production – actors, volunteers, audiences and staff”
Asbury Memorial is a Christ-centered, forward-thinking, all-inclusive congregation that celebrates the joy of God creatively and is committed to remaining a welcoming and affirming congregation for all.
